Phil TV Reruns

Why is it called Phil Television? Good Question!

Well, basically here's the deal…

Phil Television began back in the summer of 1986. Phil E. V. and his friends decided that they wanted to capture a few of their antics on film. No one could afford an 8mm or 16mm movie camera, let alone a videocassette camera (consumer models went for about $5000 then). So, Phil went to the local Hill's Department Store and bought a Fisher Price PXL-2000.

This "child's toy" retailed for about $120 and used chrome audiocassette tapes to record (yes, video on an audiocassette). Needless to say, the sound and video quality were complete crap (stay tuned for video of classic Phil Television), but it worked for filming stupid parody commercials and skits.

Well, not much has changed in the last 18 years. Phil is still being stupid with his friends, and he's still the only one that can afford to bring it to the public (hence, the name Phil Television). However, the attitude and equipment has changed. "The Pilot" was purposely shot on a 'consumer-grade' camera, to give the viewer the sense that they're witnessing the show in a 'bare-bones' format. Forthcoming episodes have been shot with 'broadcast' quality cameras, which will help the viewer to evolve with the 'show' as it progresses.

Phil has never done any of his work alone. Every person that has contributed, in one way or another, will be credited either in a show title credit or on this website. This entire project would not be possible without the contributions of tons of people that love the concept. Phil Television is grateful to everyone who has been, currently, or will be involved!
